2026 NYSAFLT Annual Conference

Nick Amster is a World Language and TESOL educator with New York City Public Schools who believes language learning is ultimately about communication, connection, and helping students see beyond their own experiences. An educator since 2015, he brings a multidisciplinary perspective shaped by K–12 education, student affairs, teacher development, educational leadership, and experience designing opportunities for student engagement and belonging.

Nick earned his B.S.Ed. in Adolescent Education/Spanish and M.A. in Theology from St. John's University, as well as an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from Stony Brook University and advanced certificates in TESOL and Middle School Education. Beyond his classroom, he serves as an NJHS Co-Adviser and Senior Activities Advisor and advocates for multilingual learners, Heritage Language programming, and equitable World Language instruction. As a Lead Instructor with the NYC Teaching Fellows, Nick also supports and mentors developing educators as they translate educational theory into effective classroom practice. He is a DonorsChoose Ambassador and believes strongly in leveraging community partnerships to create engaging, accessible, and student-centered learning environments.

Within the World Language community, Nick is a member of NYSAFLT's 2025 Leaders of Tomorrow cohort and serves on the Executive Board of Long Island Language Teachers (LILT) as Newsletter Editor and Webmaster. A conference presenter since 2017, he enjoys connecting educators, exchanging ideas, and exploring how relationships, student identity, leadership, and intentionally designed learning experiences can strengthen language education. He is also slowly teaching himself French and Italian, which regularly reminds him what it feels like to be the language learner in the room!
